first requirement is to have a brain to start with so that you can study other brains.

Normally it takes 4 years of High School, 4 years of College obtain your BA or BS, then 4 years of medical school and another 4 years of Psychiatry Residency Training. Though this is always a give or take, it depends on grades and the schools you go to as well. Look it up on the websites mentioning these things. Just poke around a bit. I also must mention that if you were thinking of becoming a Psychiatrist that the only difference between them and a Psychologist is the amount of schooling, Psychologists have less, and that a Psychiatrist can write prescriptions.
