0.243243 ???

Is this a terminating fraction , or recurring to infinity.

As a terminating fraction is is 0.243243/1.000000

which reduces to 243243/1000000

However, if a repeating fraction to inifinity, it should be written as 0.243243....

Note the three or more suffixed dots.

It can be converted to a fraction.

Hence

Let P = 0.243243.....

1000P = 243.243243....

Subtract

999P = 243 ( Note the recurring to inifinity decimals subtract to zero).

P = 243/999

Reduce by '3'

P = 81/333

Reduce by '9'

P = 9/37 The answer !!!! ( This will not reduce any further as '37' is a Prime number).

NB For decimals repeating to infinity , the last written digit is followed by at least three 'stops', otherwise it is a terminating decimal.

Terminating 0.243243

Recurring to infinity 0.243243....
