The motion of a body towards and from some fixed point. It can also be used to find the acceleration (or deceleration) in the same direction or the total distance from the fixed point in the direction of motion.

But the graph gives no information at all on motion in any other direction. So, the horizontal displacement of a rocket going straight up would always be 0!
