First make them all top heavy fractions:

4 and 1/5 = ((4*5)+1)/5 = 21/5

5 and 1/3 = ((5*3)+1)/3 = 16/3

1/2 stays as 1/2.

Secondly put them all over the same denominator by multiplying the top and bottom of each fraction by the same multiplier. The multiplier can chage for each fraction.

Here the lowest common multiple is 30, so the lowest number you can make all the denominators is 30:

21/5 * 6/6 = 126/30

16/3 * 10/10 = 160/30

1/2 * 15/15 = 15/30

Now you can add all three factors together because they have the same denominator:

126/30+160/30+15/30 = 301/30

Finally, you can simplify your answer:

10 and 1/3.
