The place value in maths is the value a number has depending in which column it is placed.

Thousands, hundreds, tens, ones, decimal point, tenths, hundredths, thousandths

So, using 1234.567 as an example, 1 is 1 thousand, 3 is 3 tens, 5 is 5 tenths.
