They are similar. The largest distinction I can think of is that consecutive things can be finite. Consecutive events happen in unbroken or logical sequence but are not necessarily continuous. Continuous events are ongoing. A random number generator would be continuous, but since there is no logical pattern to the numbers, it would not be considered to be generating consecutive numbers.
