This simply states that both sides of an algebraic equation must remain equal. for example: if 2x + 7 = 19, you must subtract seven from BOTH sides, not just one... like this 2x + 7 (-7) = 19 (-7): 2x = 12. Same here; in order to get x alone we must divide BOTH sides by 2. 2x (/2) = 12 (/2) : x = 6
