If 4x + 4 = 2x + 36 then:

4x - 2x = 36 - 4 (we have moved the "x's" all to one side and the constants [the numbers] to the other side; remember we must reverse the sign, e.g. change a plus to a minus, when moving something from one side of the equation to the other).

We can now simplify this to:

2x = 32

Therefore:

x = 32/2

x = 16.

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?
