Grouped frequencies are the number of events (frequencies) for a range of values of the variable being recorder. For example, you could classify your town's population into the number of individuals aged 0, aged 1, aged 2 and so on. However, it would probably make more sense to add together those aged less than 5, those aged 5 or more but less than 10, and so on. The latter process would give grouped frequency: in 5-year age groups. The former process would generate a lot of numbers and preserve all the detail. The latter would reduce the volume of information (to a fifth) without greatly reducing the information content.
It is false that the majority of the aged are socially isolated.
Just say the average age of 5 people is 17. This does not give the right impression of the data if 4 of the people are aged 5 or younger and the other person is in their seventies.
