a common denominator is a number that 2 numbers can be divided by evenly, 8 and 12 are both divisible by 4 and 2 and 1, so those are their common denominators.

Normally you would need 2 numbers to get a common denominator, but because 19 is a Prime number, (which means it can only be divided by 1 and itself 19) then no matter what other number is paired with it, there will only be 1 common denominator and that is 1
