A sequence is a set of elements in which the order and number of elements matters. Normally, in a set, repeated elements are not allowed and their order is irrelevant. For example, a sequence can look like

S = {1,3,2,10,2,10}

but a set with these same numbers would look like

S' = {1,2,3,10}

A function, also called a mapping, is a way in which elements from one set are mapped into elements of another set.
