The first point has a positive ordinate, the second point has a negative ordinate.
The distance is 5. The x distance is 3, the y distance is 4, and the diagonal issqrt(32 + 42) = sqrt (9 + 16) = sqrt 25 = 5
Between -1 and 0.
The absolute value of a number is defined as the number or its negative - whichever is larger. (Remember that, if you are given a negative number, then ITS negative will be positive). It can also be defined as the distance of the number on the number line (in 1-dimension) or as the Pythagorean distance between the point and the origin is spaces of 2 or more dimensions. The Pythagorean distance is always the principal (ie POSITIVE) square root of the sum of the squares of distances along a set of orthogonal axes. Simple question, but rather complicated answer!

The shortest distance between the two points is zero
The first point has a positive ordinate, the second point has a negative ordinate.
A distance is the length of the straight line path between 2 points. This is also known as a scalar value as it has a magnitude but no direction. A displacement is the distance and the direction between one point and another. This is also known as a vector as it has magnitude and direction as well. Note that the distance between two points, say, point A and point B is the same as the distance from point B to point A. It remains the same value regardless of the direction of travel. On the other hand, if a displacement between point A and point B was 1 mile North, it cannot be reversed. The displacement between point B and point A is 1 mile South - the same distance but an opposite direction.
The distance between any two different points is always a positive quantity.
The distance is 5. The x distance is 3, the y distance is 4, and the diagonal issqrt(32 + 42) = sqrt (9 + 16) = sqrt 25 = 5
The distance between the starting point and the destination is 64.5mi, (104km), and will take approximately 1 hour 19 minutes of driving time.
If you mean points of (-5, 1) and (-2, 3) then using the distance formula it is the square root of 13 or about 3.6
The distance between the starting point and the destination is 123km, (76.5mi), and will take approximately 1 hour 27 minutes of driving time.
The distance between the starting point and the destination is 87.7mi, (141km), and will take approximately 1 hour 35 minutes of driving time.
Abs(x-y) is the distance between x and y So it's the distance between any point and 1+i that must be equal to 3, so it's a circle centered on 1+i point
The distance between the start point and the destination is 81.6 miles, and will take approximately 1 hour 40 minutes of driving time.
