To draw circles you need to use a compass
A compass is a geometric tool used to draw circles.
A drawing compass - often referred to as a pair of compasses.
Most of the time, a tool called a "compass" is used to draw perfect circles. This compass is not to be mistaken with a directional compass.
Pi is used anytime there is a circular (as opposed to linear) geometry involved. Examples include circles, cylinders, spheres, and other cruves.

A geometric compass is an instrument, or a tool, used in plane geometry to draw arcs and circles. Not to be confused with the geometric and military compass invented by Galileo.
There is no evidence of that.

In 1597, Galileo invented a geometric and military compass, a multipurpose scientific instrument used for making calculations and geometric measurements. This is not to be confused with the drafting or drawing compass that is used in plane geometry to draw arcs and circles. The latter was invented more or less concurrently with the invention of the vehicle wheel and the potter's wheel around 3500 BC in what is now Iraq.
A compass is mainly used to draw perfect circles, but it can also be used to draw arcs of different sizes.
