The Cartesian plane allows geometric information to be converted to a coordinate system which can then be analysed using algebraic techniques. Conversely algebraic information can be converted (by plotting) to a geometric form. Theorems that have been proved in one of these two disciplines can be used to solve problems in the other.
Thus finding the volume when a curve is rotated becomes a simple matter of integration. Solving simultaneous equations is reduced to finding the point of intersection (if any) of the corresponding graphs.
The Cartesian Coordinate System was discovered by Rene Descartes.

I am not sure that anyone was named AFTER the Cartesian coordinate system. Malcolm X, possibly!
The Cartesian coordinate system can be used in 3 or more dimensions.

The Cartesian coordinate system was invented in the 17th century. The idea of this system was developed in 1637.

Cartesian coordinate system.
cartesian coordinate isn't a system. the graphs you put on the cartesian coordinate plane can be systems. these graphs can be anything you want them to be. and they are calculate different every time. the thing to remember about cartesian coordinate planes is the you plot the points of (x,y)
It was the French mathematician Rene Descartes who devised the Cartesian coordinate system

It is the abscissa.
A Cartesian coordinate system is a coordinate system that specifies each point uniquely in a plane by a pair of numerical coordinates. These coordinate system can be used to provide geometric interpretations for many branches of mathematics.
