That is the date on which the Earth was almost totally destroyed, perhaps by an Asteroid, perhaps a design flaw in the atmosphere, who knows?

"In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened" (Genesis 7:11)

This probably happened in the year 2348 BC (according to James Ussher's biblical chronology), although the interpretation of this date varies among the experts:

The most layman interpretation is clear:

February 17

However, the most commonly excepted interpretation is that this date corresponds to Heshvan 17, the second month in the Hebrew Calender. The resulting date, again calculated by James Ussher, is:

December 7

Finally, some have suggested that it is unlikely that Noah knew of the Hebrew Calender, which wasn't invented until the Exodus (Exodus 12:4, c.1491 BC). Therefore we utilize the Enoch Calendar, a Pre-Flood calendar described in the Apocrypha Book of Enoch, being invented around 3000 BC. The revised date therefore is:

May 24

As an honorable mention, Harold Camping (who put creation at 11,013 BC and judgment day on October 23, 2011 AD) had claimed that the Flood started in 4990 BC,

May 21
