The x- intercept of a line occurs when the line crosses the x axis. When this happens the corresponding y value of this point will be 0. From this we know that x-intercepts have y = 0. To find the x-intercept of a line we can plug this y value into the formula and get a corresponding x.

2x - 6y + 24 = 0

2x - 6(0) + 24 = 0 (substituting 0 for y)

2x + 24 = 0 (-6 * 0 is 0)

2x = -24 (add 24 to both sides)

x = -12 (divide both sides by 2)

The x-intercept of 2x - 6y + 2 = 0 is x = -12 & y = 0 or (-12, 0)
