It depends on the data set, but

if you take the data set 1,2,3

2 is the median and to find the mean you have to add all the numbers and divide by the number of items

so 1+2+3=6 and 6 divided by 3= 2

now the median is 2 and the mean is 2

so this is when they can be the same
