Variable Frequency Drives are used in HVAC systems to control or vary the speed of Fans and Pumps. Over half of the electrical energy in a commercial building is used to move air via fans and water via pumps through the building to Heat and cool the building. Pumps and Fans are usually oversized or sized for the worse case conditions.

Without a Variable Frequency Drive they run full speed at all times using a tremendous amount of energy. The Variable Frequency Drive allows the Pump or Fan to run at different speeds depending on the need. This saves huge amounts of energy.

Due the Affinity Law for Fans and Pumps reducing the speed by 10% saves 21% in energy, reduce the speed by 20% = a 49% energy reduction
