Obviously the bigger area the better so outside or in a park, night is always better so hiding is easier. But when weather turns cold or rainy you can play inside.

I can remember hiding in closets, hampers, cabinets, under mattresses or couch cushions, or behind drapes.

A variation on the theme for outside is called sardines. that is where one person hides and as each person in the group finds you they too hide in the same spot until there is only one person left. Definitely best done at night, I once jammed 9 people into a small depression in the ground within plain site of home base, the darkness and a shadow from the small bump in the ground kept us all hidden for a long time, in fact most people who found me actually stepped on me.

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?
