The two dots indicates the beginning of a new octave. The 12th fret notes are the same notes as the open cords, only one octave higher. ( E A B G B E )

The also helps the Guitarists to visualise more easily their fingers position on the fretboard.

What are the dots on the guitar fretboard for?

The dots on a guitars fretboard are reference points. They are always on the 3rd(G),5th(A),7th(B),10th(D) and 12th frets(E).From the 12th fret, you start over. The fret "dots" are simply markers telling you which fret your finger is on.And also different from type to type of guitar. THE FOURTH DOT IS ON THE 9TH(C#) FRET NOT THE 10TH.

Which fret is the 15th fret on electric guitar?

Frets counted from the head towards the body. Count the position between the 1st fret and the nut (nearest to the head) as fret #1 if it is to be played. The 15th fret is the single dot after the fret with two dots. On the stratocaster fretboard, you will find a single dot at frets 3, 5, 7, 9, two dots at fret 12 and single dots at frets 15, 17, 19 and 21.

How many dots in the acoustic guitar?

If by "dots" you mean the inlays on the fretboard, it is totally dependent on the guitar. There are traditional locations for the markers, but there's no fixed number on all acoustic guitars. Most guitars have a dot to mark the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 15th, 17th, and 19th frets. Most guitars have two dots to mark the 12th fret. On guitars with more frets, the 21st fret is marked with a single dot and the 24th fret is marked with two. Some guitars also have a single dot or an inlay on the 1st fret. Also, some higher-end guitars have other types of inlays to mark frets and make the guitar look better.
