A mixed number has a whole number and a fraction. If the whole number part of a mixed number is less than a whole number, then the mixed number will be less than the whole number. For example,

7 1/3 < 8

23 3/4 < 100

4 1/2 > 4

Any number between ' 1 ' and ' 2 ' is a mixed number, but

it's less than any whole number that's greater than 1.
