Lewis and Clark built Fort Mandan in 1804-05.
Lewis and Clark stayed at Fort Mandan for a little over 5 months. The fort was built along the Missouri River, and was constructed from cottonwood lumber.
Fort Mandan was an encampment built on the Missouri River about twelve miles from what is now know as Washburn, North Dakota. There is now a replica that stands near the original site.
They built Fort Mandan in North Dakota during the winter, so they could rest.
She moved to Fort Mandan because Clark invited her to live there.
