I assume you mean subtracting a fraction from another fraction. In this case, you need to multiply both the top and bottom number by another number so both fractions have the same bottom number. Then you can subtract the top numbers and simplify if needed. (ex. 7/8 - 1/2 = ? ...... 7/8 - 1/2(4/4) = ? ...... 7/8 - 4/8 = 3/8) If you can't just multiply one of fractions to get the same bottom number as the other fraction, multiply them both by different numbers until you get the same bottom number. (ex. You could use the same equation as in the first example, but make the bottom number 16 instead, just as an example..... 7/8 - 1/2 = ? ...... 7/8(2/2) - 1/2(8/8) = ? ...... 14/16 - 8/16 = 6/16 ...... Simplify 6/16: 6/16 take 2 out of top and bottom both = 3/8).

To subtract one fraction from another, find a common denominator for both fractions. Then subtract the numerators of the fractions and keep the common denominator. Simplify the resulting fraction if needed.
