That is called a three way switch. It's used in conjunction with another 3 way switch in another area and they both control a light or set of lights. The black is power and the other two are called travelers that wire to the the other 2 gold screws on the other switch.
A three way switch can be used as a single pole switch by using the black screw and one of the brass screws. You will have to test the circuit to orient the switch so up is on and down is off, if that is what you desire, because it is not obvious on a three way switch.
The green screw is simply your equipment ground. You place your green or bare conductor there.
The color green is not commonly used for receptacle terminal screws. Brass and silver are typical colors for the screws, while black is often used for the insulating coating of the screw.
You have a 3 way switch. Your black wire is the hot wire. Your green wire is the ground wire. Your red and white wires go to the light and other switch. You should have gotten a wiring diagram with your switch.
You can connect the wall switch to the outlet by running electrical wire from the outlet to the switch. The wire should be connected to the power source at the outlet and then routed to the switch to control the flow of electricity. It's important to follow proper electrical wiring procedures and ensure the circuit is turned off before making any connections.
Normally the white wire is neutral, and the black is hot. But if the power comes into the ceiling box and the light is controlled by a switch leg the white my very well be hot. If there is only one wire in the switch box that is a switch leg.
The two way switches work in pairs. We find most of them in our houses where the light bulb can be operated by two switches each at the far end to the other. Each switch consists of three terminals two of which are connected. When one switch is open and the other is closed then the bulb glows and viceversa

To properly wire a three-way dimmer switch according to the wiring diagram, you will need to identify the common wire, traveler wires, and ground wire. Connect the common wire to the black screw on the dimmer switch, and the traveler wires to the brass screws. Make sure to connect the ground wire to the green screw on the switch. Follow the wiring diagram carefully to ensure correct installation.
To wire an outlet switch combo, first turn off the power to the circuit. Connect the black wire to the brass screw on the switch, the white wire to the silver screw, and the ground wire to the green screw. Then, connect the black wire from the outlet to the brass screw on the switch, the white wire to the silver screw, and the ground wire to the green screw. Finally, connect the remaining black and white wires to the corresponding screws on the outlet. Make sure to secure all connections and test the switch and outlet before turning the power back on.
To wire a light switch with 4 wires, you will need to connect the black and red wires to the brass screws on the switch, the white wire to the silver screw, and the green or bare wire to the green screw for grounding. Make sure to turn off the power before starting and follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper installation.
Check the screws next to the wires and see what color they are if they are green, black, and red then do what i say next, if not you're screwd. just connect the red/black/green wires in the holes in the flip switch and be careful not to touch the wires just the protective covering and inert them they should auto lock in there...if not just screw them in.
Be sure that those wires coming from the box are for a recepticle and not a light switch.

You can add black olives to your salad if you'd like, but a common green salad does not usually have them.
To install a 3-way wall switch in your home, you will need to first turn off the power to the circuit at the breaker box. Then, remove the existing switch and identify the common wire, traveler wires, and ground wire. Connect the common wire to the dark-colored screw on the new switch, and the traveler wires to the light-colored screws. Finally, connect the ground wire to the green screw on the switch and securely mount the switch in the wall box. Turn the power back on and test the switch to ensure it is working properly.
To properly install a light switch with 4 wires, first turn off the power to the circuit. Connect the ground wire to the green screw on the switch. Connect the two black wires to the brass screws on the switch, and the red wire to the silver screw. Secure the wires with wire nuts and mount the switch in the electrical box. Turn the power back on and test the switch to ensure it is working correctly.
