∙ 14y agoThe danger is the higher heat that would be emitted by the higher wattage bulb. For example, if cause a fire if close to anything combustible. It could also overheat and cause it to fail sooner than it would otherwise. It will also draw more current, but that is a factor in the wiring and any circuit protection. If you are using Compact Fluorescent Bulbs there probably wouldn't be a problem.

∙ 13y agoThere is the active the neutral and the earth. if you use the earth as one of the wires that connect to the light it wont work. however the light will work regardless of which way around you put the other two wires.

You would have to provide more info to be certain what your problem is. Typically a black and white wire would connect to the two wires on the light fixture. The fixture should also be controlled by a switch that "breaks" the black (Hot Wire) to turn off the fixture. If you have a volt meter you can see if there is 120Volts between the black and white wires with switch on. If there is a single white wire going to fixture (Neutral), where is the "black wires tied" to. Maybe one of the black wires has broken off the fixture.
