The biggest battleship built during World War 2 was the Japanese battleship Yamato. It was 263 meters long and had a displacement of over 65,000 tons. Yamato was heavily armed and served as the flagship of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Combined Fleet.

The Japanese twin sister ships, the Yamato and Musashi. These behemoths displaced 64,000 tons and mounted a main battery of 18.1 inch guns. This was the largest guns ever mounted on a battleship, firing armor-piercing shells which weighed 3200 lbs each. It required eighteen torpedoes to sink the Musashi when she made a Kamikaze sortie during the US invasion of the Philippines.

The US fast battleships of the Iowa class (Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, and the USS New Jersey). Of which the USS New Jersey has the distinction of being the only Vietnam Veteran of the class and the world's last battleship to have fought as an an all gun battlewagon (no cruise missiles, just her 16 inch rifles).
