It depends on whether the pond basically has a flat bottom or sloped. It also depends on whether the pond (or sections thereof) is basically round or rectangular. If flat bottomed and round use the formula for the volume of a cylinder (pi X radius squared X height) . If flat bottomed and rectangular use the formula for the volume of a cube (length X width X height). If sloped and round use the formula for the volume of a cone (1/3 X pi X radius squared X height). If sloped and rectangular use the formula for the volume of a pyramid (1/3 X length X width X height). If the pond is irregular divide it into sections which are more-or-less regular and use the appropriate formula on each section. The number of sections depends on the accuracy desired-and also on the irregularity of the pond.
