milligram
in grams
The official SI unit for mass is the kilogram. Smaller and larger units are used, such as the ton (= 1000 kilogram), the gram (= 1/1000 kilogram), the milligram (= 1/1000 gram = 1/1,000,000 kilogram), the microgram, etc.
There are always exactly 1000 milligrams per kilogram. There are always exactly 455.392 millgrams in a pound. "One milligram per pound" would make the two equivalent, a nonsensical position which they are not by definition.
kilogram, gram, decigram, centigram and milligram
Grams.
in grams
A kilogram is much heavier than a milligram is. Just one kilogram is equal to 1000 grams or one million milligrams.
For an ant farm, I would suggest a kilogram. For an individual ant, a milligram.
Neither of those units will produce a very convenient number. But of the two, the kilogram is the better choice.

kilogram, gram, decigram, centigram and milligram
no
There is no such object since a milligram is a measure of mass, not of weight. A small ant would have a mass of 1 mg.
