∙ 12y agoNot wanting to state the obvious but the wall switch has to be turned on to supply voltage to the outlet. The lamp will need a three way light bulb in the lamp. A three way bulb uses two filaments of different lengths. One element is used for low brightness, the other filament for medium brightness and the high brightness setting uses both filaments in the bulb. If a single filament ordinary light bulb is used in place of a three way light bulb there will be a position on the three way lamp switch where the bulb will not light. Find the position on the lamp where the bulb will light and leave it there. Use the wall switch to turn the lamp off and on through the controlled receptacle.

∙ 12y agoA three-way lamp switch is designed for controlling the brightness of a three-way light bulb, not for controlling an outlet. A wall-controlled outlet typically has a simple on/off switch mechanism, which is different from the dimming functionality of a three-way lamp switch. They are not compatible due to their different functionalities.
A three-way lamp switch requires a dedicated three-way bulb and socket to function on all three settings. If used in an outlet controlled by a wall switch, the voltage may not be appropriate for all settings to operate correctly. Additionally, the wiring configuration in the wall switch setup may not be compatible with the three-way lamp switch.
The separate on-off switch for a lamp is called a "lamp switch" or a "light switch." It allows you to easily turn the lamp on or off without having to unplug it from the outlet.
You will need a three-way switch setup, where one switch is installed in the first location and another switch in the second location. This will allow you to control the lamp from either location independently. Both switches need to be connected to the same circuit, with one acting as the primary switch and the other as the secondary switch.
You can achieve this by using a three-way switch setup. Connect the power supply to the common terminal of the first switch, the lamp to the common terminal of the third switch, and the traveler terminals of the three switches in a loop. This way, you can turn the lamp on and off independently from any of the three switches.

Plug a lamp into a working socket of an outlet to ensure the lamp works. Then turn off the switch and plug lamp into all outlet sockets, top and bottom outlets until the lamp doesn't light. Then turn on the switch and the lamp should light. Often a switch in a bedroom is only connected to one socket in a duplex outlet. It is possible to remove a jumper in an outlet to isolate the sockets for just this purpose. Often an electrician will install the outlet upside down (The third prong pointing up, to identify the outlet.

Break off the tab that jumps between the wire mounting screws on the side of the receptacle. This turns one receptacle into 2 seperately controlled parts--one is always hot and the other is controlled by the switch (the one with the lamp plugged in).

To determine which outlet a light switch controls, turn the switch off and test the outlets with a lamp or device. Once you find the outlet that loses power when the switch is turned off, you've identified the controlled outlet. Alternatively, you can use a circuit tester to trace the wiring and identify which outlet is connected to the switch.
The same as any other light. The plug is inserted into the wall outlet which inturn supplies power to the switch. If the switch is in On, current will flow to the bulb. this causes the light to come on. When the switch is turned off, the current stops there.
A three way switch is one of two devices that is used in operating a load from two different positions. This type of electrical circuit is known as three way switching. This terminology is used in North America, in Europe and the UK this type of switching is known as two way switching.

no because when you remove the lamp the circuit is still open; even if the switch is on
