Parentheses are important in the order of operations. This is a good example.

For -(2^-2) we find -.25

Because it is 1/-2^2=-1/4 or as a decimal, -.25

For (-2)^-2 we find 0.25

Because it is 1/(-2)^2 = 1/4 or as a decimal, .25

Then

(-2) ^(-2( = 1/(-2)^(2) Note the hegative power has gone!!!!

1( (+)4) = 1/4

Because (-2)^(2) = -2 x -2 = (+)4 = 4
