You start off with FIVE. Think F-I-V-E. Then you take off 2 of the letters, F and E.

Now, you are left with I-V a.k.a. the ROMAN NUMERAL IV, 4!!!

An equation to help guide you would be;

F,I,V,E - 2 = IV
