The first step is to decide on the domain: the values of x for which the graph is to be drawn. Then

  • select the lowest value of x in that range, substitute that value in the equation and solve for y. Mark the point with coordinates (x, y);
  • repeat for the highest value of x in the domain;
  • select any intermediate value for x (pick one that makes calculations easy) and repeat.
If the three marked points are on the same straight line, join them together. You're done. If not, you've made a mistake somewhere: check your work.
