To put fractions in to standard form you must already know how to put whole indices into standard form which is one of the basics.

Say you have to put 9777 into standard form. you would have to divide the number until there is only one digit left whole there for 9. after this you would have to put the rest of the numbers as a decimal so you would have 9.777. To finish this you would then need to write x10 and the power would be how many times you divided the original number there for making the answer - 9.777*10^3. you would use the same method to do decimals (when doing decimals you need to times the number until their is one whole number and then you put it in standard form but then the power would be a negative) such as:

0.000000001 = 1*10^-9

3465.34653456= 3.45634653456*10(3)

to put decimals you need to convert them to whole/decimal numbers and then use the same method to convert them to standard form such as:

Another answer:

Convert the fraction to a decimal and proceed. The answer will have a negative exponent. 3/8 = 0.375 = 3.75 x 10^-1
