∙ 15y agoTo convert from a larger unit to a smaller unit you would multiply. Ex: 5 km = 5000 m Where 1 km = 1000 m <><><><><> It depends on which factor you are multiplying or dividing by. It can go either way. To convert from ounces to grams, for instance, you can divide by 28.350, or you can multiply by 0.035273.
It makes sense to multiply when converting measurements to smaller units because it takes many smaller units to make up a larger unit. So in order to translate larger unit(s) into smaller units, you have to break up the larger unit(s) into many smaller pieces.
Metric unit is easy. Costomary unit is an advanced unit
Decagram if going from larger unit to smaller unit, and decigram if from smaller to larger.
To move to a larger measure, divide by s-cubed where s is the scale factor between the smaller linear measure and the bigger one. For example, To convert from cm3 to metre3 , 1 cm = 0.01 m so n cm2 = n*(0.01)3 cubic metres.
To convert from a smaller unit to a larger unit in the metric system, you move the decimal point to the left. Each time you move the decimal point one place to the left, you are multiplying by a factor of 10.
You convert to a larger unit. Smaller to larger. Metre is 1000 times larger than a millimetre
Yes. For example, 100 grams = 0.1 kilograms

1 centi is 10 times more than 1 milli. 1 milli is 1/10 of 1 centi. What helps me to remember is that one millimeter is a lot smaller (1/10) than a centimeter, so it takes more millimeters (10) to make one centimeter.
By subtraction. For example 2 - 1 = 1
The decimal point moves to the left.

To convert a given unit to a larger unit, you need to determine the conversion factor between the two units. Divide the given value by the conversion factor to get the answer in the larger unit.
There isn't any one general answer. It depends on what unit you want to convert to what other unit.
False - when converting from a larger unit to a smaller unit there will be more of them so you must multiply. What you multiply by depends upon the units, for example converting feet to inches you multiply by 12; converting pounds to ounces you multiply by 16. It is only with the metric system of units where you multiply by a power of 10 to convert a large unit to a smaller unit, for example 2.5 kg is 2500 g (multiply by 1000 or 103).
Larger, since the meter is the smaller unit.
