well if you're rounding decimals lets take 5.629 and you want to round it to the hundredths place, you want to look at the thousandths place and if it is 5 or higher raise the hundredths place digit by 1

so you are basically looking at the digit after the one you want to round to and if it is 5 or above then raise the digit you are rounding to
