Depends on the shape, if it's a cylinder then find the radius of the circle on the end by measuring the diameter in feet and halving it. Then multiply it by itself and the multiply it by pi (~3.141593); this is the area of the circle in square feet. Multiply this by the length of the tank (measured in feet) to get the cubic feet.

To find the area of a object you do width x highth for a rectangle. You multiply on side of the object 4 times to get the area of a square. To find the area of a trapizoid, the formula is, 1/2 times highth (base 1 plus base 2).
