Let's say that you want to find the square of 6. What you would do is multiply 6x6. 6x6=36, so the answers would be 36.

The same goes for any other number like 12. Again, you would multiply 12x12. 12x12= 144, which makes 144 the square of 12.

Think of it as real square made up of other little squares all the same size. If you have have one row of 6 going along the top row, then to make it a square the colums must also be 6 squares long, so you have 6 rows of 6 squares, 6+6+6+6+6+6=6x6=36
