If the denominator is bigger, it is not a mixed number. If the numerator is bigger, divide it by the denominator and put the result as the main number. The remainder is the new numerator and the denominator is the same.

eg 5/2

5 divided by 2 is 2 remainder 1 so it is 2 1/2
