To round numbers to the greatest place value, you first identify the target place value you want to round to. Then, you look at the digit to the right of the target place value. If that digit is 5 or greater, you round up by adding 1 to the target place value. If the digit is less than 5, you leave the target place value as it is. Finally, replace all digits to the right of the target place value with zeros.

Well, when you're rounding numbers, you want to look at the place value you're rounding to. For example, if you're rounding to the nearest hundred, you'll look at the digit in the tens place. If it's 5 or more, you round up, and if it's less than 5, you round down. Just remember to breathe and take your time, there are no mistakes in rounding, just happy little numbers.

The greatest place value will be whatever non-zero digit is farthest to the left. Look at the digit immediately to the right of it. If that digit is four or less, zero it and everything to the right of it out. If that digit is five or higher, increase the greatest digit by one and zero everything to the right of it out.
