Anything with a zero exponent is 1. Positive exponents tell how many times to multiply a base number. Negative exponents tell how many times to divide a base number.

Negative exponents are the reciprocals of positive ones.

10^2 = 100

10^1 = 10

10^0 = 1

10^-1 = 1/10

10^-2 = 1/100

3^2 = 9

3^1 = 3

3^0 = 1

3^-1 = 1/3

3^-2 = 1/9

How to solve integer exponents?

Positive exponents: an = a*a*a*...*a where there are n (>0) lots of a. Negative exponents: a-n = 1/(a*a*a*...*a) where there are n (>0) lots of a.

Why the properties using zero exponents and negative exponents specify that the bases be nonzero numbers?

Because the expressions are undefined for base = 0.

How do you simplify mathematical expressions with negative and zero exponents?

Any value to the zero power is 1. If an exponent is negative, you need to switch it from the numerator to the denominator or vice-versa. For example, x-2 is 1/x2.

What are negative intergery exponents?

I assume you mean "negative integer exponents".It means that: * It is an exponent * It is an integer (whole number) * It is negative (less than zero, i.e., with a minus sign) A negative exponent is defined as the reciprocal of the positive exponent. For example, 10 to the power -5 is the same as 1 / (10 to the power 5).
