It helps if you turn them into decimals first, then subtract (just remember that a whole number has 0's after a decimal point, it doesn't make any difference to a whole number if it has a decimal point with 0's after it or no decimal point!). But you can also do it like this (here is an example) 20 - 3 4/5 First you have to remember the a whole number = 5/5 or 4/4 or 66/66 ect. So now you can say 20 5/5 - 3 4/5 Do the whole numbers first: 20 - 3 = 17 Then the fractions: 5/5 - 4/5 = 1/5 Add 17 and 1/5 and you get 17 1/5 Hope these methods help!
