Try 2nd and then press de on button
Perhaps you have to change the battery. It is also possible that the calculator is damaged.
First, it could be flat out broken, in which case you will need a new one. Check if this is the case by first making sure there are new batteries in the calculator. Second, make sure your screen is not just really bright. To do this, push the on button and then repeatedly push the 2nd and then up arrow to make the screen darker. If this doesn't work after a short time, its not the problem. You could finally try to turn on your calculator by resetting it. This involves taking out the batteries for a few minutes. If that doesn't work, your calculator appears busted and you probably need a new one.
With most of the TI calculators, you have to press the "2nd" button (usually in the top left corner, by the screen) and then the "ON/CLEAR" button (usually in the top right corner, by the screen).
Why do you need a calculator?
On normal calculator, press 'Off'. If your calculator doesn't have this button, the calculator will turn off automatically after some time. On scientific calculator, press 'shift' and press 'AC'. (depends on your version of the calculator)

If you have a message along the lines of "Error, turn of calculator then turn back on," and can't seem to be able to download the software to update the calculator, this really helps.1) Download IT Connect.2) Go to the website below to find the newest version of software for your calculator.3) DO NOT click download. Instead, right click on the link, and hit SAVE LINK AS. Save the link to your desktop.4) Open IT Connect. It should come to a screen with seven icons including TI DeviceExplorer as an example.5) Take the link that you pasted on the desktop and drag it into the empty space in IT Connect.6) Connect your calculator and turn it on.7) Take out one of the batteries. Then press the DEL key FIRST, then put the battery in while holding that key down.8) Click on DOWNLOAD and it should take anywhere from 5-10 minutes for the system to update.9) When the download is complete, the screen should say something like "Validating, Progress 100%" At this point, DO NOT turn off or unplug the calculator.10) Wait 5-10 minutes for calculator to reset. When it is reset, the screen RAM CLEARED should come up, and just hit clear to remove it.11) If these steps do not work, try contacting the Technical Support Desk.
