I suppose the tiles are 6 inches by 9 inches (since you did not mention their units of measurement). Convert the two values into feet. So the length of tile is 9/12 or 3/4 foot. The width of tile is 6/12 or 1/2 foot.

Area of one tile is (3/4) x (1/2) = 3/8 square feet.

To find the number of tiles to cover 100 square feet would be (100) / (3/8). Just do this division. That is the answer you seek. Try it. You can do it. The answer may not be a whole number so round it up to the next higher number (this is because hardware stores don't sell fractions of a tile). Good luck!
