Cubed is simply another way of saying "to the power of three". For example, the phrase "seven cubed" would be written as 73.

If you are unfamiliar with exponents, they are a way of noting something that is multiplied by itself multiple times. For example, our 73 above could also be written as 7 × 7 × 7.

You may note that the relationship between exponents and multiplication is the same as the relationship between multiplication and addition. Multiplication is just a way of adding a number to itself many times (e.g. 7 × 3 = 7 + 7 + 7). In the same way, exponents are a way of multiplying a number by itself many times (as noted above, 73 = 7 × 7 × 7).
