Multiplication is an easier form than addition when adding the same number over and over.

For example . . . Addition: 6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6 = 56. You add 6 + 6 = 12, then you add 12 + 6 = 18, then you add 18 = 6 = 24, then you add 24 + 6 = 30, then you add . . . . . This is tedious and time wasting. Suppose there were 2 thousands 6's - it would take a long, long time to finish.

If you use multiplication . . . 6 x 9 = 54 or 2,000 x 6 = 12,000 or to get really crazy, how about 6 x 9,537? You could add 9,537 6's, which would take a huge amount of time when you could simply multiply, instead: 6 x 9,537 = 55,222
