2x-5=12...................... also be written this way

2x-5+5=12+5................. now do opposite operation of the sign in front of 5 on

both sides to get 2x on its own on left hand side ie +5

since equation says -5

2x =17 ................Now 2x=17 but we only want to know what the

value for x is! So since x is multiplied by 2 we will

have to divide on both sides to get x on its own.

2x/2 =17/2 ...................... Okay so now on the Left hand side the 2 on top and the

2 below can cancel and don't forget to divide on the right

hand side as well

x = 8.5 ................................... So 17 divide by 2 will give 8.5 so you have solved

x and x is equal to 8.5

I think you mean 2(2x-5)=12

so

4x-10=12

4x=12+10

4x=22

x=22/4

x=5.5
