That depends on the shape of the object. For a sphere (globe or ball) the formula for its surface area is 4 x pi x r2 where pi = 3.1416 eg for a sphere of radius 3 cms the surface area = 4 x 3.1416 x 3 x 3 = 113.098 sq cms
