An 'average' in math is a form of central tendency.

An average best describes what a group of numbers or letters' median is.

Ex:

A set of numbers -

2, 14, 6 , 4, 35, 7

First: You have to put the numbers from least to greatest.

Ex:

2, 4, 6, 7, 14, 35

Then you count of from beginning and end towards the middle number which is between 6 and 7.

In these cases you add the two numbers together and divide by the number of numbers which is 2.

(6+7)/2

13/2

6.5 is your average in the set of numbers.
