no matter if the number is negative or positive, the absolute value of a number is always positive. The answer depends on how far away the number is from zero. So if you ask for the absolute value of -4, the answer is 4 (-4 is 4 away from zero). If you ask for the absolute value of 4 (positive 4, not negative), then the absolute value is STILL 4.

it's pretty simple, just remember that the absolute value will always be positive.
