The difference is that the 4 figure grid map is used for roughly the place that is located in the map while a 6 figure grid is used to find the exact location on the map. So when there's a need to find the exact location use the 6 figure grid instead of the 4 figure grid map.(:

A 4-figure grid reference provides a general location within a 1km square on a map, while a 6-figure grid reference provides a more precise location within a 100m square within the 1km square. The 4-figure grid reference gives you a rough idea of where something is located, while the 6-figure grid reference pinpoints the location more accurately. The additional two digits in the 6-figure grid reference allow for greater precision in navigation and locating specific points on a map.

Oh, dude, a 4-figure grid reference is like giving someone directions to a general area, while a 6-figure grid reference is like pinpointing the exact spot where you left your keys after a wild night out. It's basically the difference between saying "I think it's around here somewhere" and "It's right next to that tree where I tripped over last time."
